Weather Metric › Construction weather forecast
What will the weather do to your site programme this week?
Put in the site and Weather Metric reads the forecast against the limits your site works to, hour by hour, and says which are within limits, approached or exceeded, and when.
The forecast, read against your limits
A consumer forecast says it will be windy on Thursday. A programme needs to know which activities that touches and for how long. Weather Metric takes the figures you set (a crane’s out-of-service gust, a careful-lift figure, a MEWP limit, the pour window, a mortar minimum, a coating dew-point margin and an hourly rainfall threshold) and reads every forecast hour against them.
Under the live weather, one line counts how many of your limits are Within limits, Approached or Exceeded in the next 24 hours. Open it and each limit is listed with the window, the forecast figure and your own figure side by side. Exceeded limits come first, and each carries one line naming a measure you might consider.
Ten days, several models, and how sure they are
Each hour is the mean of the Met Office, ECMWF, NOAA GFS, DWD ICON and Météo-France models for the first days, then of the models that still run. How far apart they sit is shown as well, because a gust that five models agree on is a different planning input from one they disagree about.
The Cautious reading takes each hour at the adverse edge of that spread, so a tight lift or a pour can be planned against the worse case rather than the average.
Every morning, without opening it
Save the site and it opens straight on it next time, with its limits. Turn on the 07:00 brief and the day’s limits arrive as a notification or an email with one link back to the site; limit alerts send a message when a limit is forecast to be exceeded.
What it leaves to you
Weather Metric reports forecast and measured conditions against limits you set. It does not decide whether an activity goes ahead: the lift plan, the method statement, the manufacturer’s figures and the people responsible on site do that.
Questions people ask
- Is the construction weather forecast free?
- Yes. There is no sign-up and no account. Saved sites and limits stay on your own device.
- Which limits can I set?
- Crane out-of-service gust, mean wind, careful-lift gust, MEWP gust, the concrete pour window, mortar minimum temperature, coating dew-point margin and an hourly rainfall threshold. Each starts from a common planning figure; set yours from the lift plan, the method statement or the supplier.
- How far ahead does it go?
- Ten days, hour by hour. The first screen reads the next 24 hours against your limits and the Forecast tab carries the rest.
- Does Weather Metric decide what happens on site?
- No. It reports the forecast against the limits you set and names measures to consider. The decision stays with the people responsible on site.
