Weather Metric › Site diary weather record
How do you attach measured weather to an existing site diary?
Most site diaries record that it rained. Few record how much, or where it was measured. Weather Metric adds that to the diary you already keep, without changing how you keep it.
Bring the diary as it is
Export the diary as a CSV from whatever you use now, a spreadsheet or a diary product. Drop the file on the Record tab. Weather Metric finds the date column and adds weather columns to every dated row.
What each row gains
Measured rainfall from the nearest Environment Agency gauge, with the station named and its distance from the site; modelled temperature, wind and gusts, labelled as modelled; sunrise and sunset; and the minutes of the working day outside usable light.
It stays on your device
The file is read and rebuilt in your browser. The diary itself is not uploaded; only the site and the dates are used to fetch the weather, as with any search on the page. The file comes back with the site’s short link at the foot.
When it becomes evidence
A diary with measured weather beside each day is a stronger contemporaneous record than one without. For a claim, the Record tab also shows the monthly comparison against thirty years for the place, and the dated record prints from the browser: see the guide to weather records under NEC and JCT.
Questions people ask
- Which diary formats work?
- Any CSV with a column of dates. Export from your diary product, or save a spreadsheet as CSV.
- Is my diary uploaded anywhere?
- No. It is read and rebuilt in your browser; only the site and the dates are used to fetch the weather.
- Does it work for sites outside England?
- The modelled conditions, daylight and lost light cover the whole United Kingdom. Measured rainfall needs an Environment Agency gauge, so it is England only, and the file says where a day has none.
